AAMIA Co-Convened Town Hall Meeting: Courts, Communities, Civil Rights

(CLEVELAND, OH) Reverend Timothy McDonald, Chair, African American Ministers in Action (AAMIA), joined an all-star panel of judges, elected officials, and community leaders, including: Ohio State Senator C.J. Prentiss, Ohio State Representative Lance Mason, and Eighth District Court of Appeals Judge Patricia Ann Blackmon in a discussion on the current status of the filibuster, the role of the courts in communities, and civil rights issues. More than 100 citizens attended the April 28, 2005 meeting.

Law Professor Candice Hoke, Cleveland-Marshall School of Law, joined Stan Miller, NAACP Cleveland Branch Executive Director, and Raymond Pierce, former Clinton Administration Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights in the US Department of Education, as moderators for the event.

Joining the AAMIA as partners for the Town Hall Meeting were: People For the American Way, Cleveland AFL-CIO Federation of Labor, Cleveland Branch SCLC, Cleveland Branch NAACP, The United Church of Christ, National Council of Negro Women, Inc. – Western Reserve Section, Teamsters National Black Caucus-Cleveland Chapter, African American Woman’s Agenda, Black Women’s Political Action Committee, NAACP National Voter Fund, 11th Congressional District Caucus, and Voices of the Electors.
